About Simunye
Imagine, the story of your family written by you, translated into the Chichewa and/or Yao language, and then hand carved onto your door in the African tradition of the family door. Our Malawian coordinator, Bertha Mkandawere, will translate your story and your door will be hand carved by Afan Yasidu (Elder Artist) and/or Sammy Bakali (Master Artist) in the village of Three Mile outside the town of Zomba, Malawi.
Our artists also produce doors with traditional Malawian stories, African village scenes, and your favorite African wildlife. All of their work is one of a kind, hand carved, and extraordinarily beautiful. Your doors will be the talk of the block!
Simunye, a Zulu word meaning "we are one", is a socially conscious business dedicated to artists, their communities, their families, and world class customer service. Simunye Worldwide products are made for the modern consumer. Our handcrafted products are inspired by the traditions and cultures of the artisans. Traditional methods, designs, and concepts are incorporated into all of our products. Simunye Worldwide products do not include cultural artifacts or antiques, only brilliant contemporary artwork conceived, designed, and produced by artistically talented and socially conscious artisans.
Our Purpose
The purpose that we are all dedicated to at Simunye Worldwide is to build a successful socially conscious business with the following goals:
* Our primary goal is to provide Simunye Worldwide Artisans with a commercially viable outlet for their artwork.
* Our secondary goal is to work together to find ways that we can collectively have a positive and lasting impact on the Artisans' communities.
* Our final goal is to grow as a business in order to provide similar opportunities for additional artisans within Malawi.
